Women's Entrepreneurship Lunch: "Popping" Under Pressure

Please join Greater Iowa City, Inc. and the University of Iowa's John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center for our Women’s Entrepreneurship Lunch featuring a special guest speaker, Sydney Rieckhoff!

Sydney will share how risks and failure allow us to "pop" into our potential. She discusses how she's learned to view pressure as a positive, and the ways it has played out in her career evolution from Scholastic News Kid Reporter to teenage entrepreneur, and now young CEO.

This event is free, but REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Thank you to the IOWA Research Park for hosting us at the beautiful BioVentures Center for this lunch event. Register by March 21st at 8pm to secure your lunch.

Meet Sydney Rieckhoff: 

Sydney Rieckhoff is a Cedar Rapids native. In 2012, while a freshman in high school, she and her brother, Carter, opened stands inside the Newbo City Market selling ice cream and popcorn.

Over the next 11 years, these stands evolved into Almost Famous Popcorn Company which today has both a flagship retail location and production facility in Cedar Rapids. 

In 2022, Sydney and her family acquired Cedar Creek Popcorn in Sac City, Iowa. This acquisition doubled the size of their operation and also made them the caretakers of the World's Largest Popcorn Ball.

While building Almost Famous, Sydney pursued a degree in International Relations at Stanford University, graduating in 2020. After working as a Software Engineer in Chicago, she returned home in 2022 as the full-time CEO of Almost Famous.
